Daring Bakers Challenge: Filled Pate a Choux Swans

So, last year my son, Jonathan, had an eventful first day of school.  Remember that earthquake?  This year, though, the ground did not tremble as he sat in yet another new school.  He trembled.  But not the ground.

You see, the poor kid, has gone to so many different schools that every year it's the same story.  "Mama, how will I know where to go?"  "My stomach hurts."  "Why can't I go to my old school?"  So, every year I try to make the first day of school into a little celebration.  And this year the Daring Bakers helped me out.

Kat, from the Bobwhites, was our host for the month and she encouraged us to try these amazing little swans.  Made from pate a choux, they are easy to make and assemble.  The hardest part was piping the swan heads but after one or two I really got the hang of it.  Once the heads and bodies are piped and baked, it's simply a matter of slicing, filling, and reassembling.

So, my boys got swans for the first day of school.  What lucky kids!  They even licked their plates.

Kat's recipes and directions were so fabulous I'm not going to reprint them here.  You can follow this link to all of her expert advice on the Daring Kitchen website.  Plus you can see lots of other Daring Baker creations.  Maybe you'll even become a Daring Baker yourself.

A New Kitchen

Sassy Suppers has moved!  Literally.

That's right.  Sassy Suppers has a new address, new house, new kitchen!  Wanna see?

I took pictures right after I unpacked the boxes and put everything away.  This will be the neatest and cleanest it EVER looks so I thought I'd share now.

Anyway, I apologize for the lack of content on this blog but there's nothing like a big move to interrupt the cooking process.  Now that I'm settled into this small but well-equipped kitchen, I look forward to sharing more recipes and cooking adventures with all of you!
