You see, the poor kid, has gone to so many different schools that every year it's the same story. "Mama, how will I know where to go?" "My stomach hurts." "Why can't I go to my old school?" So, every year I try to make the first day of school into a little celebration. And this year the Daring Bakers helped me out.
Kat, from the Bobwhites, was our host for the month and she encouraged us to try these amazing little swans. Made from pate a choux, they are easy to make and assemble. The hardest part was piping the swan heads but after one or two I really got the hang of it. Once the heads and bodies are piped and baked, it's simply a matter of slicing, filling, and reassembling.
So, my boys got swans for the first day of school. What lucky kids! They even licked their plates.
Kat's recipes and directions were so fabulous I'm not going to reprint them here. You can follow this link to all of her expert advice on the Daring Kitchen website. Plus you can see lots of other Daring Baker creations. Maybe you'll even become a Daring Baker yourself.
